If you have followed the process carefully adding the following code to your wp-config.php.
/* Multisite */
define( 'WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true );

You have then created your network using “Setup Network” in your “Tools” menu and created your first multisite. Then to your surprise all you get is  “The page isn’t redirecting properly” when you try to open the dashboard.

Regrettably you have probably missed the important step that said “change your site url to yourdomain.com instead of www.yourdomain.com”. It was there in the setup process, you just missed it.

Now what? Well firstly don’t panic, what you have is a redirect loop created because it is looking for a web address with the www prefix and there is a database mismatch.

Fortunately the solution is very easy and you just need to add a couple of lines to the .htaccess file, which corrects the problem. Here they are, you can add them before or after any other Rewrite entries in your .htaccess file.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L]

That’s all there is to it, yet the web is littered with requests for an answer and I’ve yet to see one published anywhere.

Next time you will be a little more careful and you will read the small print huh?
